Cincinnati Bengals aka The Cardiac Cats Strike Again

How many times can this 2009 Bengals team do it? 5 games to open the season and all of them have come down to wire. None was more impressive than this past Sunday's. Driving the ball 80 yard on the Baltimore Ravens defense was more than impressive. Did the penalties by the Ravens on that last drive yelp? Of course they did, but at the end of the day they still had to score a touchdown to win and did it. This team has a moxie about them in the last quarter that Cincinnati has not witnessed in a long time.
This team believes they can win. Does this come from head coach Marvin Lewis? I think it starts there, and goes thru players such as Carson Palmer, Cedric Benson, Dhani Jones, and filters down to the rest of team. Even Chad OchoCinco is buying the mojo and just playing. We all love the celebrations, but he plays as hard as anyone and just wants to win.
Can this team do some special things this season? Absolutely! Carson will only get better as the season goes on. I have to feel that the defense will do so as well. Speaking of the defense - they held the Ravens offense down all game. Take away the missed tackle which led to the only Ravens offensive touchdown, and they shut them down. I understand they were playing inspired for their coordinator, but this defense can do this for the rest of the year.
I dont know what I would have done in Mike Zimmer's situation, but how can you not respect and root for a guy that comes with team after losing his wife just days prior. That speaks volumes on the type of person he is. That game ball was well deserved. Even if the Bengals would have lost that game, my respect for Mike Zimmer and his family has grown. We got to see him on Hard Knocks this season and he showed the character you want to see. He just wants to make each of his players better football players, and better men for being coached by him. Coach Zimmer - stay strong. Stay strong for your family, your friends, and everyone's lives that you have affected.
As for the 2009 Cardiac Cats? A great start. But you are not done yet. We want to see you in Miami. Play every game like it could be your last. You never know - it could be!
